Sydney Wiseman, former VP at WowWee, and renowned for her work on award-winning toys such as Fingerlings, Got2Glow Fairy Finder, and Dog-E, is now an independent consultant in the toy industry. With over 12 years of professional experience, she brings an unparalleled expertise in toy design, creative strategy, and brand development. As Syd the Toy Kid on TikTok, she boasts a significant social media presence, engaging over 195,000 followers on the platform. Sydney’s insightful approach to new innovations in play continues to shape the toy industry landscape. Based in Los Angeles, she is a sought-after speaker and influencer in the business of play.
Aaron Horowitz’s experience growing up with human growth hormone deficiency inspired a desire to bring empathy, design, and a patient-centered mindset to healthcare. He is the co-founder and CEO of Empath Labs (formerly Sproutel), a patient experience studio. Empath Labs is best known for their work creating Jerry the Bear, a best friend for children with type 1 diabetes, My Special Aflac Duck, a robotic companion for children with cancer and sickle cell disease, and the Purrble Companion, a toy to help people find calm. The White House and Barack Obama recognized Aaron as one of 50 honored makers in 2014. He holds a degree in Mechatronics and User Interaction Design from Northwestern University, a major he created to pursue a passion for understanding how people play with robots. Through his work, Aaron is on a mission to design technology with purpose.
Our moderator, Joshua Garrett, Chief Creative Officer at Readyland and Vice President at Creativity, Inc., brings over 20 years of experience in creating magical and impactful products for children, including toys for most major toy companies and children’s brands, and many award winners. A former classical musician with a Doctorate from the Juilliard school, Joshua’s diverse background adds a unique perspective to the discussion.
