Phillipe Charles is a multimedia producer and creative marketer with a master’s degree in Digital Communication. He has spent his career at the intersection of storytelling, engagement, and innovation. He began his career at Capitol Broadcasting Company, producing and editing news media and entertainment promotions. While there, he won eight regional Emmy awards and was instrumental in launching The FOX 50 Lip Dub Project, a community-focused initiative for local high schools.
After his local television career, Phillipe worked as the Director of Communications at American Underground—a startup hub—where he used traditional and digital media to boost member engagement and garner public attention for Durham, NC’s startup ecosystem. As a part of American Underground’s leadership team, Phillipe was a key contributor to launching Google’s Black Founder Exchange and other startup support programs.
Phillipe’s work has placed him at the cutting edge of technology. As the Director of Marketing at CrossComm, an innovation-focused app studio, he explored how emerging technologies like generative AI, augmented reality, and virtual reality could impact our world, including the media that families consume.
While Phillipe’s interest in children’s and family media is long-standing, it deepened with the births of his children in 2020 and 2024. He is thrilled to contribute to the Children’s Media Association, supporting a vibrant network of professionals committed to creating meaningful and responsible media for the world’s children.
