Have you ever played a game and thought, how did they know this was going to be so much fun?! Then this is the event for you! Find out how the theory behind creating fun kids (and adults) games. Join us to learn about game design basics, what makes a good game in general and what makes a good game for kids. We'll be talking about everything from digital games to good old fashioned board games. After the talk, stick around and play some games with us! It's going to be a night of fun! 


 

About Our Speakers

Traci Lawson achieved the best version of herself as a teenage camp counselor, and has been doing her best to live as an adult version of that person ever since! Today, Traci designs games and other digital content for all ages. She specializes in presenting information in its most cognitively digestible form, so participants are both hooked from the start and continue to feel engaged. She also specializes in creating digital media that gives the player an experience they couldn’t have with text, video, or other media.

Traci has worked with young audiences and families at Sesame Workshop, PBS, Random House and Nickelodeon, and with grown-up audiences at Microsoft and Arkadium. Her work has received a Webby Award, been reviewed on Wired.com and Polygon, and been featured as the App Pick of the Week at Starbucks.

Sara Farber is the founder of indie creative studio, Galactic Sneeze, which she runs with her husband. They self-published the family game, Schmovie, and adult party game, Spank the Yeti. They’ve also licensed multiple products to larger companies, including three games which hit stores this fall from Kikkerland Design: Goat Yoga Party Game, Maskarades, and Clock Block.

In addition to inventing, Sara has helped develop content, play patterns, and IPs for companies including Toca Boca, Hasbro, Spin Master, and WowWee. She has also written TV episodes for Charlie’s Colorforms City (Netflix) and Butterbean’s Café (Nick Jr.) Prior to venturing out on her own, Sara was Director of Content Design at Fisher-Price, Manager of Global Product Development at VTech, and Interactive Producer at Sesame Workshop. Sara lives in Brooklyn with her husband, 7-year-old daughter (the intern), and an adorable rescue mutt.
